SABBATH STORY
Spend a Saturday with the (future) Gomez’s from sunrise to sunset.
In a year of constant change, full of unknown outcomes and fear based noise, Sabbath has been the most consistent rhythm in our dating life. Weekly, we put away our phones and take a day to stop working, rest and worship. On Saturday, August 14, we would love to invite you to imitate our typical sabbath day as a way of sharing not just the evening but entire day with us.
You have creative freedom of course, but for Lexi and I, this looks like leaving Saturday completely free of work and meetings, full stop. We spend time ahead of Sabbath intentionally thinking about what we might need for the day, or who we might want to spend time with, so that when Saturday morning rolls around we’re not scrambling for resources or ideas. The day starts simply with a well rested sleep & an extended period of time to read scripture, pray, listen, walk, and receive the love of God. This step is done separately, as Lex and I aren’t married yet and live in different places. We then get together around 10am for breakfast with family (or friends). Our Sabbath breakfast is a sacred time so of course we have pancakes and sausage with all the best toppings (coconut whip cream, chocolate chips, fruit, nut butter, etc). This meal is followed by some sort of exercise, whether it’s a long walk on a nice day or a workout at the gym. We use the afternoon to do the things we don’t always have the luxury of doing during the week.. whether that’s reading a good book, writing in a journal, playing piano, singing songs, or taking a nap (a personal favorite of Lexi’s). In addition to those things we like to have our phones turned off for the day, and all other electronics out of the way. These aren’t legalistic practices, they’re simply things we’ve found to help fill our soul back up and bring alignment with God. The evening is spent by sharing a good meal in community - whether that’s with friends or family, or both. The ideal night is filled with good chats, gratitude, prayer, and closed in the perfect fashion... with cookie ice cream sandwiches. Our personal favorite. It’s a day full of delight in simple luxuries, rest, and worship.
So there you go, nothing too complicated. Be creative but keep the staples. Rest. Prayer. Pancakes. Walks. Naps. Then meet us at 4:30pm and we’ll finish the day together. How fun it would be if everybody comes into the wedding on the same page, well rested and full of pancakes, ready to sync up and celebrate together. That’s our vision, one of the fun dreams we have for this special day.
Cheers to REST for our souls..
Shabbat Shalom!
